LoRaWAN Devices, and Future Innovation - SODAQ CEO Interview

Friday, February 14th, 2020

In a dynamic Internet of Things environment, it becomes crucial to follow the latest developments of new and future innovations. To discuss the developing LoRa landscape, SODAQ attended The Things Conference in Amsterdam, hosted by The Things Network. As one of the first companies working with the LoRa network, the innovation present every year never ceases to amaze us. Alongside the great community, such conferences give us an opportunity to share some of the expertise and insights from working in the field. For this reason, Jan Willem Smeenk, the CEO of SODAQ, provided some key insights into new plans for board development, projects and much more!

Our current LoRaWAN offerings are quite diverse, ranging from nodes, such as our SODAQ ONE, to finalised solutions such as our cattle tracker v2. The aforementioned SODAQ ONE, is a small scale (45x25mm) low-power prototyping board for the LoRa RN2483 to develop internet of things applications. This small device consists of Arduino-compatible software, with LoRa connectivity and nifty features such as an accelerometer, magnetometer and much more to give you complete control on when the device should send signals. This can be compared to our cattle tracker, a device that enables farmers and researchers to track location as well as patterns through an open source software (Arduino) language. It has good integration with dashboards and is powered through solar, reducing the required maintenance for animal tracking solutions.
